The
dead have risen and once
again roam the earth.
Zombies!!!, shadows of
the people we once held
so dear, now wander the
city street seeking only
to satisfy their hunger
for warm flesh.
The
walking dead are everywhere
you look. Nowhere is safe!
Nowhere is sacred! Every step
you take you can smell the
stench of rotting flesh and
every thought is shattered
by another blood curdling
cry....
JEANETTES
PHARMACY
Usually
a hive of activity, Jeanette's
pharmacy now sits quiet and
foreboding. Good ole' Jinty
- just remember how she used
to swear by the magical properties
of Sudafed to sooth all ails.
She'd always greet you with
a smile as though she didn't
have a care in the world,
and as you'd sook on a boiled
sweety from the complimentary
jar on the counter, your cares
would begin to fade too.
If
only she could see her pride
and joy now, it's shelves
of drugs and shampoos strewn
over it's floors. If only
she caught sight of this place
for a single moment then she'd
have
a fit. Never mind the trails
of blood decorating the once
pristine isles and smatterings
of fresh brain sticking to
the walls, she'd be sure to
whip it up like new in no
time, all the while chasing
those zombies out with her
broom.
Even
ole' Miss Mosco with those
long luscious legs that we
used to admire from afar when
we were kids seems to have
had an impromptu paint job.
For so many years she'd remained
untarnished by the ravages
of time, but now a thick claret
river snakes down her leg.

GAS
STATION
Mike
was a simple man of few words.
His weathered face told of
a thousand stories engrained
by time but left unspoken.
His gas station was never
a hive of activity, you were
even lucky if he were there
himself most days - you'd
be more likely to find him
down the street supping away
at a pint of the amber nectar
than slaving away behind those
pumps. So even though the
lights are out and no one's
home you can't really feel
bad because this is the way
it always was. There's cracks
in the windows, the main door
is hanging off it's hinges
and the gas pumps have long
since seen better days
only the rust now holds them
together, but that's nothing
new.
